Triphala
Ayurveda's best-known formula: three dried fruits ground together, taken at night for regular digestion.
Stir into water2 minutes, makes 1 dose
You need
- Triphala powder (amla, haritaki and bibhitaki in equal parts)
- ½ cup warm water
Makes 1 dose.
Good for
, ,
Steps
- Stir ½ teaspoon of powder into the warm water. It tastes sour and bitter; that is normal.
- Drink it about an hour before bed, on an emptyish stomach.
- Start with ½ teaspoon for a week. If your bowels stay comfortable you can go up to 1 teaspoon.
- If the taste is too much, use triphala capsules instead and follow the label.
Keeping it: Keep the powder in a sealed jar away from light and damp. It keeps about a year.
Be careful: It loosens the stool; cut back if you get cramps or diarrhea. Not for pregnancy, and take it 2 hours apart from medicines because it can affect how they are absorbed.
