Cold infusion (for soothing, slippery herbs)
Some herbs coat and calm a sore throat or stomach. Their slippery gel comes out best in cool water, given time.
Soak in cool water5 minutes, then 4 to 8 hours of waiting, makes about 2 cups
You need
- 1 to 2 tablespoons dried herb
- 2 cups room-temperature water
- A jar with a lid
Makes about 2 cups.

Steps
- Put the herb in the jar and fill it with the water.
- Close it and leave it on the counter for 4 hours, or in the fridge overnight.
- Strain. It should feel slightly thick and slippery. That is the part that soothes.
- Sip it cool, or warm it gently. Hot water breaks the gel down.
Keeping it: Drink it within 24 hours and keep it in the fridge.
Be careful: Slippery herbs coat the gut and can slow how medicines are absorbed. Take them at least 1 to 2 hours apart from pills.
